What I've been up to again

Yesterday I had an eye ache. I was pushing through, working on my game anyway until I felt the bloo magoo dance and I ran to the bathroom and threw up all my potato chips and pizza I ate that morning when my eye didn't hurt.   My room light is now behaving itself and not flickering any more. It never did burn out, but I don't know how much life it has left.   My computer is being an idiot and acting up. It likes to make me turn it off and back on again because it freezes. Or

Web site crap.

So I got an email saying my website provider is changing its nameservers and I need to do something about that since my registrar isn't with them. So I look it up and it's Tucows. So i go to Tucows' webpage and it said if Tucows is my registrar, then I need to contact my website provider for any help. I used the WHOIS lookup and see that my nameservers are corrected to the new ones. I'm guessing why I got that e-mail (hoping why I got that e-mail) is that they told it to send it to anyone whos r

These United States

I don't think they're going to accept my font. So I made a few changes to it and I'll try submitting it again. I think one of the few things I did wrong was making Alabama too big compared to the rest of the states. This was my bad since I was just getting used to the upgraded software. I had Font Creator 12 but my auto-kerning feature was only available if I paid an extra $99, which I did, and downloaded Font Creator 15, which I also did.   Rhode Island was a tiny little blob. So I ch

The story of Rapunzel

I need your help in trying to understand something: the fairy tale of "Rapunzel." You know, sounds simple. But not when you think about it. You know the story, the gal with the really long hair stuck in the high tower and the prince comes along and says "let down your hair!" So he can climb up it...and do what? He can't save the princess if he's stuck up there, too. Sure, he could get down again by climbing down Rapunzel's hair again, but that wouldn't help because she'd still be stuck up there.

the fate of the white rabbits

Right now I'm focusing more on the Jukebox Quiz comics. I had been writing Edgar, Allan, Moe comics, mixing it with Far-Side-esque cartoons like in Mother Goose and Grimm, but I found I had more ideas for that then I did about what the rabbits were doing. The rabbit comic will run until September 17. On September 19, I'm bringing back my Jukebox Quiz comics. So what's with the name Jukebox Quiz? I wanted a non sequitur title similar to "the Argyle Sweater" since that was the style of comic I was

The Ants

I was getting ready to write a blog entry when I noticed my computer needed updating. Why it does who knows, perhaps just to annoy people. I don't want to update my computer any more. Is there a way to turn off checking for updates? It makes my computer unusable for at least 10 minutes every time it feels like annoying me.   Anyway, I was looking through my old CDs and DVDs when I came across a CD that had The Beatles' Rubber Soul and Revolver on the same disc. I only liked a few songs

The "Mr. Nimrod" mystery.

So I was looking at comics I drew as a kid. I picked up a certain one, a Mad-like comic book. It had 13 pages (a busy kid!) It was dated Fall 1993. Going through its pages, I found a comic called "Mr. Nimrod." Mr. Nimrod was a talking horse. But I don't remember there being a talking horse in 1993 called "Mr. Nimrod." Mr. Nimrod was in a list of people I made fun of on the cover, and is noted with such names as Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Roseanne, etc. So I'm at a total loss as to who Mr.

SUNday? I don't think so.

If the sun does decide to come out, it will still be below freezing anyway. I'm still prepared, taking a flashlight with me at night where ever I go. Right now it's 17 degrees and a little after 8 a.m. here. It looks like even Tuesday now will be below freezing so that's an extra day to wait. Hopefully Wednesday will be the day to get rid of all the ice. I'm so sleepy. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. and found the power still on after my 15-hour nap. I'm still working on stuff, but will avoid anything th

stuff going on in my life.

I have been working on Pot o' Gold a lot today. I got so angry at it because I was trying to make the trees 2 tiles instead of just one. It kept repeating the sound of the tree getting over and over again. So when that was solved, I'm trying to use channel 3 for the takeaway of the trees. All I can get just now is a soft hiss. I'd like something more like a "pop!" type sound effect. I'll try to work on it some more when I get all the sprites in.   I wanted to continue making some mini

Sorry.

I'm sorry if the last blog entry turned out to be so selfish. I was just angry because I thought it was the whole outage area. Of course I don't want wildfires to start, but I thought that turning everyone's power off would be overkill. But that isn't the case, my power is still on (for now). Especially since it doesn't appear to be that bad of a windstorm as they expected, at least here. So again, sorry about my ranting about that.

Sleep again

I have to give up on my soccer game. It is going crazy.   But I think I have discovered something: I think of stuff in my sleep. I thought of this comic in my sleep. I thought of another one, but I forgot it. When I woke up, I went to draw it. I slept all day Sunday and woke up today at about 1:30am. I decided to make comics 7 days a week when I have enough ideas. I want to finish next week's because I only have 2 comics done for it. Ideas have been slow to come to me lately

Sheep.

So I drew a comic with sheep in it. It was in drawing this that I learned something: Sheep are really hard to draw. Especially if you want them to stand on their hind legs. This is the cleaned up version. You should have seen the one where they looked like fat people. Or perhaps they still do. I googled sheep pictures and tried. I tried really hard to make them look like sheep. But I failed. Regardless, it is still my choice for my webcomic for 12/26.   Also, I have somethin

Seeing red: Goshzilla

So I got bored.   I'm really hot, so I probably won't sit in front of the computer much since it's hot in my room. I hate spring and summer. It's too hot. It's 76 degrees right now, so I'm not really in the mood to work for long periods of time like I do when it's colder.

rabbit turds in my oatmeal

A long time ago, about eight years ago, I had an idea for a sitcom. I wanted to write a couple of scripts for it to see if and how it would work. I bought "The Hollywood Standard" by Christopher Riley, a reference book. I downloaded Celtx. And I wrote a couple of episodes. This was eight years ago.   Fast forward to today. I decided to come back to this little pet project of mine. I found the book. I booted up Celtx. It wasn't working correctly so I had to get a new scriptwriting progr

PSPS

So stupid PGE (Portland General Electric) has decided I live in a high-risk area for a wildfire starting, so they may shut off my power for 24-48 hours. I highly doubt any wildfire will start around here, and even if it did, I want my f***ing electricity. How many wildfires have started in a metro area ever? Any? So it looks like I may need to bust out my Game Boy and let the rest of the entire world run while I sit here in the dark for no good reason.   You know what I think? I think

Presenting...The Ants!

I was working on a piece of music. I began composing what I hope to be a long symphony. But who would I want to attribute it to? I needed to think of a fictitious band name. So I began thinking. I thought about the Beatles. Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Then it hit me: The Ants! They will be The Ants! I got bored and wanted to take a break from the Adventures of the Stalk of Celery for the Channel F.   I put what I have on my website, so you can listen to it. If you listen to it, you'l

Pac-Line for Intellivision

So the past couple of days I began work on a version of Pac-Line for the Intellivision.   Yesterday my eye hurt really bad, yet I still went to the used game store. I walked out with Blues Brothers 2000 for the N64 because I didn't see anything else to catch my eye and I wanted to support. I saw the first issue of Nintendo Power in there. Too bad they wanted $200 for it! They also had some Fun Club News issues, the cheapest one being $40. And then I went to Popeye's and got some delici

Orange you glad I said "Banana?"

I decided to make the pages of my banana joke book the same as a Goosebumps-like book. I am using Libre Office to type up the jokes. Because Microsoft Word costs money. While this means it will be harder to print on my printer I think the quality will be better. That and I can use more pages. I'll have to cut the sheets out when I print them because they're smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches. So here's today's banana joke.   Why was the young banana yearning to grow older? He was green with

Nothing

I haven't been working on anything this morning. I woke up at around 8. Then the leafblowers started coming (it's Wednesday) shortly after so I decided to get up. So I did. If anyone likes crosswords, I have been making small ones recently. You can find them here: Mini crosswords. They're not as small as the 5x5 "mini" ones the New York Times does, but they're big enough to have a few different shapes since they're 8x8 ones.   I'm saddened by the death of Tom Smothers. I was just watch

No TV makes me something something

So apparently both our cable boxes stopped working. I called the Comcast people and of course they don't work weekends so we'll have to go all weekend without TV. Mom isn't taking this very well. I fired up the Hulu we never use and found something she'll begrudgingly watch. I on the other hand will miss not having TV, but I have my video games and the internet to keep me happy. My meals came so I have something to eat.   I don't know why the cable boxes suddenly stopped working for no

No more snow

In case you've been wondering where I have been these past few days. No, the power ddin't go out. I've just been busy doing other stuff. Like sleeping. I sleep now between 14-16 hours a day. I know that's more than half my life spent sleeping, but I can't help it. I want to spend just half my life sleeping. But in order to do that, since I woke up at 10 a.m. I'd have to stay awake until 10 p.m. And I don't know how I'd do that.   The ice is completely gone now. The high was up in the 5

New Year's Day on Sunday

I remember a day when New Year's Day fell on a Sunday. It was 1/1/1995. Not one, but two comics ended on that day: The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes. It was sad. I'm sure New Years Day falling on a Sunday has happened a few times since then, but it's going to happen again. Looking back, and forward, I was going to premiere a new comic on 1/1/2023. I drew a couple of comics called "A Gnome, a Gnu, and a Gnat." I drew two of them. Then I got stuck.   So I started thinking about how Gary

My new pet project

I'm still working on Frank the Fruit Fly when the urge strikes. But my new project is a side one. And it's not really a video game at all. It's this: I've began work on a new joke book. What made me decide to do this? It is nearing Halloween (it's the first day of Fall), so I got out my annual Garfield joke book. It's a Halloween tradition of mine to read it. It's called "Garfield's Big Fat Scary Joke Book." It's a paperback about the size of a Goosebumps book, or a little smaller. So

music to my ears (and probably no one else's)

For as long as I've been making music compositions, I've always used Anvil Studio. I thought I'd change things up a little and compose a new epic song using a program called "Aria Maestosa". It's similar in that you can place notes on a bar by clicking on it, but there are many other different changes I could use if I could understand them. One of the more frustrating options omitted is you can't change the key signature mid-song. I just spent 45 minutes trying to find a way but I couldn't. So I

Limes

I worked some more on that chrisword puzzle. I worked some more on a music composition I had begun about a year ago and never got around to finishing. And then my eye started to hurt. I took some chewable aspirin. It was disgusting even though cherry flavored. Then I barfed a whole bunch. Barfed up all I had eaten that day. Went to lay in bed and soon I felt another urge. So I went to the bathroom and barfed a whole lot more. Felt a little better, but I needed to go to sleep. Sleep is usually wh
