Ran-over Possum Man! (part 2)

I've been working on Ran-Over Possum Man some more.   I got passwords working. This will be a password game. So because of this, it won't have a score. It will be one of my "get to the end to beat it" video games. People seemed to buy Jack and the Beanstalk for the Odyssey², so I guess that's okay.   I also got the intro to level 1 finished. Bank 1 will have level 1 and the level intro screen. I think there should be more than enough room to put level 1 in. The plot is the sa

Ran-over Possum Man!

Batman has the powers of a bat. Spider-Man has the powers of a spider. Even Superman has super powers. But what does Ran-over Possum Man have? Why, the powers of a ran-over possum, of course! I wanted to restart Stupidman, but this time do it on the Game Boy even though I never finished the NES version because my NES graphics stink big time. Seems kind of odd though that I want to restart the game on a console that uses 4 colors.   So I went to work on Ran-over Possum Man this morning.

Leaves of Grass

So I worked on Frank the Fruit Fly, trying to get a better Super Game Boy border in. I eventually did. So then I played it. I ran into a couple more bugs that needed fixing. So I fixed them. I put more realistic grass in. I used the same grass I put in The Ants cover. I saw that grass on that cover and thought "That looks like it could go in Frank the Fruit Fly's Super Game Boy border." I thought it would look better. Although I sadly had to get rid of the clouds, I think it looks a lo

Presenting...The Ants!

I was working on a piece of music. I began composing what I hope to be a long symphony. But who would I want to attribute it to? I needed to think of a fictitious band name. So I began thinking. I thought about the Beatles. Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Then it hit me: The Ants! They will be The Ants! I got bored and wanted to take a break from the Adventures of the Stalk of Celery for the Channel F.   I put what I have on my website, so you can listen to it. If you listen to it, you'l

Six² update (Magnavox Odyssey)

The overlays should be coming next week as well as more dice I ordered. There should be about 20 copies total, BUT I AM NOT TAKING ORDERS AT THIS TIME. First I have to get everything settled and make sure everything is ready to go. Then I will take orders.   It's amazing what an ordinary printer can do. I'm not gonna pay a print shop money I don't need when I can do it myself. So I wondered how I did what I did before. It's been that long. I found the paper I used. It's thicker than no

Easter rabbits

I woke up at 2 p.m. As usual. But what was unusual today is the fact that I was sneezing and blowing my nose a lot. Eventually I settled down after a few hours (and about a third of a roll of TP later.) I didn't do anything special. I spent a lot of the day working on my Yum! Game Gear game. And when I was done with that, I sat down and tried to think of six comic strip ideas.   I've decided to bring back my comic strip about three rabbits for my webcomic page. I have Sundays built up

small burger.

Changes to "Yum!" made in the past 22 hours. added the hamburger in. The hamburger appears less often and can only be on the screen after level 1 and if you have 1 or 0 lives left. made the inside of the guy's mouth darker. added in a special sound for eating a hamburger. drew different Brussels sprouts and broccoli sprites. raised the score position a little. Right now each level is 10 foods for testing purposes. I plan to raise it to either 50 or 100 when

Eating cookies and pizza in different places.

I decided to work some more on Yum!, a game I was making, for the Game Gear. But I stopped working on it because it was too simple. Well, I thought long and hard about what would make the game better to play. Here is what I came up with.   First off, I decided I'm going to use different locales where the action takes place. For the second level, I designed a desert with pyramid and cacti. I know they don't really go together and you can't find cacti in Egypt, but oh well. Mor

How to get the best picture from your Atari 2600

I have been working on a new Atari 2600 game, this time in assembly. I went to test it on my Atari 2600 with my Harmony cartridge. It worked, the Atari 2600 worked, my game even worked, but there was a whole bunch of graphical "garbage" (for lack of a better word) on the screen. I had hooked up my Atari 2600 to a Genesis switch box. Then I decided to try to not plug it in there, and instead plug it in directly to the TV.   What a difference it made. The picture was clear. I don't know

It's Amazing! (issue 1)

Last month I was on a Weekly World News kick. I enjoyed reading all of the stupid stories I could find. And I thought "I could do stuff like that!" So I decided to start. (By the way, names of publications are underlined, not in quotes. I learned that by watching Jeopardy!) So I made my own and it's now on the website for everyone to (hopefully) get a chuckle or two out of.   It's Amazing! is a lovely e-zine IMHO. Each 8-page issue (I'm only one guy) will have lovely news stories from

Another boring Saturday

I decided to replace the olive oil cup with some magic potion. I had to do some squeezing in to replace the potion in level 1 since it takes up two sprites instead of just one to draw it. But I eventually did. And I have half of level 2's bank left. The magic potion bottle restores your health. I slept and slept. I went to sleep at 3pm yesterday and didn't get up until 9:30 am today. But I can sleep all the time if I wanted to.

Q level 2

So I put in an end to level 1. Q is dodging fireballs while trying to move right. And I worked on the mechanics for level 2. Turns out I used over 700 bytes of that bank just getting them in. I don't know whether I will like this game once it's finished or not. Level 2 has snow. And the trees have been replaced with igloos. So now I have about 1,200 bytes to use up for the rest of level 2. I added around 200 bytes of code to level 1 and I think I have around 20 bytes left in it.

The return of Q

So I've decided to return to work on Q. The game will have 4 levels. I'm just about done with the first level. The second level will be a desert, the third level will be a snow level, and I don't know what the fourth level will be yet. I have just about run out of room on level 1. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to save one's progress. I don't think a password will work. It would take up too much precious room. And even now I feel the first level is too short. I guess it'l

Level 4

Here is level 4 of "Golden Pineapples". And here it is solved using just ten moves. Is there a way to solve it using less moves? I don't know, but I do know there are multiple ways of solving this puzzle. Ten moves is the fewest I have used to solve this one. I also made it so the pineapple select sound does not play if you try to move a space without a pineapple on it. That may have caused some confusion. So now I guess what's left of this game is make some more le

9 pineapples

I made some major changes to the code since yesterday. I got its compiling time down from 3-4 minutes to about 2. I also made it so I can have up to 9 pineapples on the screen. I changed the pineapple's landing sound. I added a Super Game Boy border. I did a lot of things. Except add new levels. But now that the majority of the "engine" is done, I will spend more time working on level design. I moved some stuff around. For example, I was taught how to move the Super Game Boy border awa

Noises

So I decided to cut the music in-game. To make it so it's not totally quiet, I added a few sound effects: one for successfully moving a pineapple, and a buzz for trying to make a move that isn't allowed. I changed the title screen music. I also made a third level and added a way to select levels. On the title screen, you can press up or down to select a level and start to start it. I have a hard time with this level. It usually takes me several tries to complete it. So I'm keeping it i

icons larger than 16x16 pixels

So I was working on making an icon for my website about my Game Boy game I have been working on. I needed a pineapple icon. So first I shrunk the picture down to 16x16 pixels using Photoshop. It looked horrible. So then I got an idea: What if I try to make an icon bigger than 16x16? So I made this 96x96 pixel one. It worked: It shrunk it down to 16x16 and it looked a lot better than the one I tried to make that was 16x16 pixels.   On that website, you can download and try the game for

Pineapples on Game Boy.

Since my avatar is a pineapple, and I finished Frank the Fruit Fly, I decided to make a new Game Boy game. This new game will have pineapples in it. But what do they do? Jump over each other like leapfrog. Only when you jump over a pineapple, it disappears, like in checkers. There is another game that does this for the Game Boy. But I decided I want to put my own spin on it and see if I could make it better. The title screen. Press start on it to reveal the grid. If I finish

Game Boy stuff I played tonight (3/23/2023)

I decided to play some Super Game Boy. I put in Earthworm Jim. It froze a few times, then froze at the boss. Angry at it for doing that, I turned it off and wondered if my Super Game Boy was broken. It wasn't the Super Game Boy's fault, the cartridge was dirty. I remember this game being really hard when I played it on the SNES eons ago. Turns out my memory is not faulty, I got to the point where there's a snowman popping up all over the place. I tried everything to kill it but I couldn't, so I

I found my Genesis Everdrive!

It was in a cardboard box in my room. The big cardboard box was near the 32X. I thought I didn't have a reason to put it somewhere far from it. So I found it and it is now near the computer resting near my Game Gear Everdrive. "An Elephant Stomping on Grapefruit" has been moved up to what I call "technically a game." I worked on collisions for the GM. So he can now kill you if you run into him. You get 4 lives. You can snag a binary of the game at its website. One thing though I h

Grapefruit monster! (part 2)

I redesigned the Grapefruit Monster. I also made small changes to the elephant. The Grapefruit Monster can now jump while he goes back and forth, which is why he's on the top in the picture even though he starts at the bottom. I also made it so the GM can change directions randomly suddenly, so you never know where he's going to go.   I had a really tough time trying to make it so the GM (I got sick of typing "grapefruit monster") doesn't get stuck inside the ledges. This usu

Grapefruit monster!

Since I got Kolibri for the 32x in the mail today, I thought I'd take some time to work on my Elephant game for the Genesis. I needed to design a grapefruit monster. So I designed a grapefruit monster, but I couldn't get it in the game! I tried and tried and tried and I finally got it in there. As it turned out, I needed to make its x position larger. It was appearing, but it was offscreen. So I got it on the screen. Next thing I need to do is to move it. It will be a two frame animation. Except

Hour Glass

So I was going through my computer and found something interesting. I had attempted a "revival" of the TV show called "Hour Glass." Why? I don't know. I first found it while looking through my gigantic book of the history of TV (over 1,700 pages!) I guess just for my own amusement to see if I could do it. I don't know if I should make it black and white or in color. I tried to make it in the style of early TV. But it's in color. But forget that for now, I still have to make 58 more min

Pink eye?

Yesterday my right eye was watering real bad. I had to keep rubbing it to get the water out of it. Then my eye looked all red. I went to sleep last night. I only got 12 hours of sleep, going to bed at 8 PM and waking up at 8 AM. I get real bored, so I thought I'd play a Game Boy game. I've been on a Game Boy kick lately I guess. I "touched up" the Frank the Fruit Fly box front. Here is how it looks now: This looks a lot more like a Game Boy box if Frank the Fruit Fly was released durin
